Thank you for stopping by to read the very first blog post for Hello Calm, a collection of information and resources to aid in supporting youngsters to better manage anxiety. As a parent of two anxious youngsters I have become aware of how difficult it is to navigate the mass of information on the internet to locate useful information and approaches to helping kids to manage better, and with the overload on the mental health system it is difficult to access professional support, let alone in a timely manner. It was for these reasons I began to dig around for information and resources to help my kids. The more I learned, the more I broached the topic in conversations with others. As a result, I began to realise just how many of our young folk are struggling with anxiety, and that many families, educators and others involved in nurturing their growth, are also floundering, uncertain how to proceed in an effective manner. This was the impetus for gathering all of the resources I had stored away, into one place that was easily accessible for others. Presently this is an evolving collection of resources which you can take into the classroom or home to share with young people, to help them in developing their understanding of what anxiety is and ways to manage this; with resources suitable for toddlers to young adults. As the site expands, a section for parents, educators and others working with anxious youngsters will be added. This will be kicked off with the launch of an e-book for educators.
I will use the Hello Calm blog space as a way of sharing upcoming events, to review books and other resources, and notify of updates to the website so you can keep up with what's new. If you want to keep up to date with posts, either follow @hellocalmness or hook up with the RSS Feed.
